Crosby & Nash at Manchester, Bridgewater Hall, 21st February 2005
The Bridgewater is a lovely venue, comfortable and good views from
everywhere. Designed for classical music many bands, or their sound crews, don’t
like it. Nash said that the room was very "Live" but the sound from row K was as
good as it gets.
The set-list was much the same as we've seen from other shows but the band was
impressive. Dean Parks on lead guitar, (from Steely Dan albums) was on superb
form. The rhythm section from CPR was tight throughout, the drummer was a joy to
here. Sensitive to when he should up the volume and play quieter.
The boys were in fine form vocally with James Raymond adding a third part to the
harmonies. Graham was on home turf and got a very warm welcome; Crosby let
Graham have his night.
Standout songs for me were Military Madness, Cold Rain (this song was written
about Manchester so to hear it sung here for the first time ever….), Cathedral,
They want it all, Almost cut my hair and of course, I Used to Be A King.
We had a hilarious cock-up in the middle of Guinevere. Crosby sang the wrong
words at one point and they stopped and he said "Did I just say..."
As C & N are both 63, we should treasure nights like this as you never
know if this is the last time you see them in the UK.
This is the tour basic set list; they tend to swap a number or two each night.
